The first half of the match was evenly balanced. Penzance worked hard to create chances and Isca goalkeeper Caitlin Whytock made some good saves. At the other end, Isca came close to scoring on a number of occasions, including when Cat Formby hit the post and Alex Cross wasn’t quite able to reach a cross on the far post.
Penzance scored first, from a well-taken shot, but Isca showed their determination when Beth Davies’ excellent strike equalised almost immediately. Shortly before half time Penzance restored their lead, much to Isca’s frustration as they had been putting together great moves with Ali Marsh and Anne Blissett working hard on the wings.
Isca looked rattled after the restart and took time to settle back into the game, with Caitlin again making some great saves to keep the home team in the match. However, Isca soon improved and Anne Blissett picked up a deflected ball and slotted expertly into the back of the net from a tight angle to make it 2-2.
Ruth Weeks came close to putting Isca in front with a shot that went just wide and Isca hit the post again as they pressed for a winner. However, Penzance scored their third goal from one of their quick counter-attacks. It was a good solo effort that Isca’s keeper could do nothing about. Isca pushed for an equaliser until the final whistle but were unable to manage it.
It was an excellent performance from Isca, but as has been the case so often this season, they had nothing to show for it at the end. A draw would probably have been a fair result. Anne Blissett was Isca’s player of the match, with Amelia Sydenham and Ali Marsh also in contention.
