Isca Dragons' 2nd team had a tough start to the season against a slick Teignmouth side playing at Dawlish. Having conceded an early goal, Isca started on the back foot and adjusted slowly to a new system of play and new players. Teignmouth built on their lead with some skilful moves, making the most of some loose Isca marking and some free shots at goal, and they also had a couple of efforts ruled out. Isca struggled to get the ball out of defence and were down 5-0 at half time.
After regrouping at half time Isca set out with renewed purpose and understanding, and grew in confidence as possession increased, but Teignmouth, with some strong tackles and counter attacks, managed to score twice more, making it 7-0. Isca scored a consolation goal when Sue Norman battled her way into the D past a couple of defenders and sent the ball goalward which Carrie Abbott saw home. Teignmouth continued to fire numerous shots at goal and 'keeper Polly Salter did well to hold them at bay, but they scored once more before the final whistle to make the score 8-1. Isca can take some comfort from the fact the performance improved greatly in the second half but have a lot to work on for next week.
