Isca Dragons started their game against Salisbury with a positive attitude, which paid off in the first few minutes as they won a short corner. Lauren Hutchings’ excellent strike was only saved by the post, but the Stephens and Scown-sponsored Dragons kept up the early pressure on the visitors’ goal. This was soon rewarded as Izzy Smith intercepted a weak Salisbury pass and calmly beat the goalkeeper to score an excellent goal.
Isca’s confidence grew from their first goal and they kept out a quick break by Salisbury and a flurry of short corners, with Colleen Devincenzi making an excellent save on the line. Isca continued to dominate for the remainder of the half and even when Salisbury scored an equaliser, the home side always looked likely winners.
The Dragons scored again in the first few minutes of the second half – their quick start again too much for the Salisbury defence. Jan Hamilton beat a player to cross the ball into the D where excellent work by Emmie Giles put it in the back of the net. Isca made certain of the game with a third goal, as Izzy Smith broke down play deep in the Salisbury half and converted possession into a goal.
Although Isca did not play their best hockey of the season, they came away with a well-deserved first win of their league campaign.
