CODE OF CONDUCT
PLAYERS
AND SUPPORTERS
Players are the most important people in the sport of hockey,
and the most fundamental part is playing for a team and for the
team to win; but this is not at any cost – fair play and
respect for all other participants in the game is fundamentally
important. Players should make every effort to develop their
own sporting abilities in terms of skill, technique, tactics and
stamina; give maximum effort and strive for the best possible performance
during a game regardless of the result; set a positive example
for others, particularly juniors and supporters; avoid all forms
of gamesmanship and time-wasting; and always have regard to the
best interests of the game including where publicly expressing
an opinion on the game and any particular aspect of it including
others involved in the game. Most of all not use inappropriate
language.
Players should make every effort consistent with fair play and
the rules of the game and resist any influences that might, or
might be seen to, bring into question their commitment to the team
winning. All players should know and abide by the rules and
spirit of the game, accept success and failure equally, and resist
any temptation to use banned techniques.
All opponents should be treated with due respect at all times
irrespective of the result of the game and their safety should
be safe-guarded and help should be provided to injured opponents.
All players should accept the decision of the Umpire without protest,
avoid words or actions which may mislead an Umpire, and show due
respect towards Umpires – remember to thank both Umpires
at the end of the game. All players should give respect to
their Coach and to team officials of the opposition.
Supporters should be encouraged to show due respect to both teams,
coaches and umpires and to applaud individual skills of excellence
regardless of which team they are supporting.
